Conversational Maori for Absolute Beginners

Description:

This beginner’s course in te reo Māori is designed for those with no prior knowledge of the language, offering an introduction to key aspects of Māori communication. Students will learn basic informal and formal greetings, introductory waiata (songs), whakataukī (proverbs), and kīwaha (idioms), as well as how to introduce themselves and express family relationships. By the end of the course, participants will be able to hold a basic conversation in te reo Māori. This course is highly recommended for anyone working with Māori communities or those who wish to gain a foundational understanding of the language and culture.

He Reo Rumaki

Description:

This course is designed for students with a beginner's knowledge of te reo Māori, with a focus on the unique dialect and cultural context of Te Tairāwhiti. Set in a total immersion environment, students will engage in a tuakana/teina framework, fostering conversational skills through peer-supported learning. Participants will build on language knowledge gained from previous courses, extending their abilities to navigate everyday conversations and enhance their listening skills with various local speakers. The course will integrate Tairāwhiti-specific waiata, karakia, whakataukī, and kīwaha, forming the foundation of the learning experience. Interactive activities, including language games, will help students deepen their understanding and fluency.
